International Scholarships for African Students: Birkbeck, University of London (UK) 2018 – 2019

 

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROVIDER

Birkbeck, University of London was founded in 1823 by Sir George Birkbeck as the “London Mechanics’ Institute”. The University underwent a few more name changes before becoming the “Birkbeck, University of London” (also known as “Birkbeck”).

Birkbeck is situated in the area of Bloomsbury within London, England, in the United Kingdom.

Birkbeck have 5 schools, each of which cover various academic disciplines and departments:

  • School of Law (which includes the following departments of: Law; Criminology)
  • School of Business, Economics and Informatics (which includes the following departments of: Management; Computer Science and Information Systems, Organizational Psychology; Economics, Mathematics and Statistics)
  • School of Arts (which includes the following departments of: History of Art; Cultures and Languages; English and Humanities; Film, Media and Cultural Studies)
  • School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy (which includes the following departments of: Geography; Philosophy; Politics; History, Classics and Archaeology; Applied Linguistics and Communication; Psychosocial Studies)
  • School of Science (which includes the following departments of: Earth and Planetary Sciences, Biological Sciences, Psychological Sciences)

 

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

Birkbeck have 2 types of scholarship opportunities for African students:

  • Fully funded scholarship: will cover the full cost of tuition and accommodation fees
  • Partially funded scholarship: will cover a portion of the tuition fees

Recipients for the scholarship award will be selected based on: academic merit, their personal statement and their essay.

ELIGIBILITY

Please ensure that you meet these minimum entry criteria before applying:
International student (from Africa)
Received and accepted an offer from Birkbeck (unconditional) to study towards a full-time Postgraduate course

 

HOW TO APPLY

In order to apply, you must first complete an online application to study at Birkbeck (via the course web page: http://www.bbk.ac.uk/prospective/postgraduate)

Once you have applied and received an unconditional offer from Birkbeck, you can then apply for the scholarship by doing the following:
Write an essay explaining why you feel that you are deserving of a scholarship (maximum 500 words).

The essay must be submitted via email to: international-office@bbk.ac.uk (with the words “Scholarship for students from Africa” in the email subject line)
